Mission Statement
The data management and storage problems of the petroleum industry are particularly acute because of the volumes of data involved and their heterogeneous nature. Standardisation of data exchange formats has undoubtedly helped the interpreter at the workstation, but in most companies there are still rooms full of more or less inaccessible information. The cost to an organisation of this is more than just the time wasted in looking through the data, there is the very real risk that critical decisions may be made in ignorance of a key piece of un-indexed information. Restructuring has compounded the problem as the collective memory of an organisation is diminished.
The Data Room has, for the last four years, kept watch on the evolution of technology in this critical area. Our Technology Watch deliverables are reports, a monthly newsletter Petroleum Data Manager, training and consultancy.
